Time Map Progress: Jason Quill Pathway

Talking Leaves are Keys to the Treasure

The current syllabary of the talking leaves points to just the right time. But for the right day of the week, look no further than the beginning of the failure of Sequoyah’s State. And while you’re at it, watch out for pirates!

Amazing that you’ve made it this far. I’m not sure if you’ve already completed the other two pathways. If you have, you’re so very close to the end.

To arrive at the end of this journey, you’ll need something very important. A central component of the Folk Secrets story involves mysterious pieces of tin with engraved words written in the Cherokee language. They were left at each of Washington Irving’s treasure locations. Instead of finding treasure, Spindler’s men just found the tin pieces.  And the Cherokee words imprinted on them didn’t make any sense. That is until they found the cipher.

A cipher is a way to encrypt and decrypt secret messages by substituting or transposing letters. In this case, every Cherokee word in the cipher corresponded to an English letter. Once they transposed each word with the correct letter, the secret message appeared, pointing to the new treasure location.

You may have noticed there are pieces of tin at the end of each pathway on this hunt, with Cherokee words imprinted on them. If you go to the trouble of deciphering them, you’ll quickly realize they don’t make any sense.

However, you’re missing the cipher. I have it in my scrapbook, and I’d like to give it to you. The same cipher from the book will come in handy for you. Use the cipher to translate the tin pieces. Each Cherokee word corresponds to an English letter, per the cipher. Once you translate the secret message on the tin pieces at the end of each pathway, you’ll know exactly how to find the last stop of the hunt.
